NOBC Listserv Suggested Guidelines

To make the NOBC listserv an even more productive forum for the exchange of ideas, your board of directors has adopted the following guidelines. No one will be "cast into the outer darkness" for straying from these guidelines. But our members' time is of great value to both them and their respective jurisdictions, so we'd really appreciate your cooperation in making this experience a beneficial one for everyone.

1. Please put a "subject" in the subject line of your post and try to be as concise and descriptive as possible.

2. Please use "NLS" (not legal stuff) in the subject line if your message doesn't relate to legal discussions on the listserv.

3. Please indicate in your post whether you want members to reply if:

a) they have "yes" or "no" answers;
b) only "yes" answers; or,
c) only "no" answers.
4. Please indicate in your post whether you want members to reply:
a) to everyone on the list;
b) only to you.

5. Please do not ask members to reply only to you unless you are willing to put the responses you receive into a document or a post that can be made available to members who want to review it or you are fairly sure no one will be interested in the answer.

6. Please honor requests in the post to only provide information if you have it. For example, replies like "no such rule in Hosmer" are not generally helpful unless the requestor asks for such information.

7. Citations to official and regional reports are helpful, and free links to rules or other authorities are extremely helpful, so if you can readily include them, please do so. Otherwise, we appreciate as much information as you can give us about how to obtain materials. Some members paste in the text or attach it. Others offer to fax on request. Please use your best judgment about how to share the information with your colleagues.

8. Please indicate whether you intend to share responses with your board, commission, court, etc., so that your colleagues know that their responses will be distributed outside the listserv.
